Teen Films are usually in two categories:

High School Musical - HSD


High School Drama (HSD) - they became popular in the 1970's, 80's and 90's with lots of variations within the sub-genre, the socialisation of teens and young adults institutions such as school, college and at home, they often, but not always, celebrate the idea of being young or youth as fun. Often 'girl centred' but might focus on a male lead







La Haine - Youth Drama


Youth Drama - A youth drama usually focuses on the social dilemma of the protagonist (often male). They are popular with teen audiences, seen to be a more authentic representation of youth than a High School Drama, the character is often rebellious and/or in conflict with others. this focuses on the difficulties of adolescent experience youth as a difficult or a problem.
