What is a title sequence?

A title sequence is the method in which a film or television programs presents their title and key production or cast members. Title sequences are an important part of a film and are essential for producers to establish company credits, state who the actors and staff on the film are.

Over the 100 years that the film industry has been around, the aim of the target has remained true to its original use. however the only difference in the sequences is that over time as technology has improved, there has been new creative ways of constructing the title sequences and so now title sequences have said to become miniature films.


Saul Bass who was an opening title designer was renowned for pioneering innovation in title design. During this period other title designers began their career such as Pablo Ferro and Maurice Binder.
Superman was the first film to have a digitally generated opening title sequence.
A common title sequence would go like this:
1. Name of studio
2. Name of production company
3. Producer/ directors name
4. Starring
5. Film title
6. Featuring
7. Cast 
8. Music/ music composed by
9. Executive producer 
10. Based on the book by -From a play/book by
11.Based on the characters
12. (screen) story / Story by
13.Written by
