39. Pitch Feedback

Pitch Feedback
Throughout the presentation we aim to get across our pitch imaginatively by using visuals and detailed information about our scenes these include variety of features that contributed to making our pitch a success some of these were mise-en-scene, audience, risk assessments and many more.
After successfully getting our pitch across with we received comments and critiques on how we could do better or what went well. Below is feedback that we collected from our peers.

Firstly our teacher feedback was we need to adjust the target audience from 16-25 to a more specific range - our argument to this is that the film has a cast of these ages where both 16 & 25 year olds come together and merge their lifestyles. We will be changing this, however.

Group 36

Pros:
  1. The presentation was very detailed and well presented to the audience
  2. Group 39 was prepared with many different type of examples for the audience to understand thoroughly
Cons:
  1.  more visuals and less time consuming so shorten the time length of the presentation keep to a minimal.
Questions:
  1. How would you attract your target market/audience?
Marks:
9/10

Group 37

Pros:
  1. The presentation was well thought out and detailed but as well explained in all key areas
  2. The storyline of the pitch was a good plot and intriguing.
Cons:

  1. The presentation was quite long compared to others

Question:

No questions for the group

Marks:
15/10

  Group 38

Pros:

  1.  The presentation was very detailed and well presented to the audience
  2. There were very good examples included and well explained.

Cons:

No comments about cons

Question:

No questions for the group

Marks:

10/10

Marisa gave pur pitch 9/10 and said our pitch was very good and 'nearly perfect'. However she said to have gotten 10/10 we needed to explain more about our target audience.
In light of this we decided to make a age range more specific to 16-21 year olds as we feel they fit this genre (Teen Drama)

Most of the feedback we got from the groups was very good and positive, so there wasnt much critism in what we could change about our pitch and ideas.

37. UPDATE - We've branded our blog visually

UPDATE // BLOG
_____________________________________________________

Welcome back to our blog,
Just a quick update to say we've changed the layout of our blog!
We made these changes to match up with the theme of our film, the reason why we chose the orange/mustard colour is because we wanted to contrast the innocence of the girl with everything around her being all dark.
Our background is a graffiti style picture to represent youth.
If you haven't already noticed we:

- Added a clearer theme
- Made our own header on photoshop
- Added a twitter widget so you can follow us
- created a menu so you individually see each persons posts they have created

& so much more!

36. Update Storyboard from feedback

Our Feedback was that the storyboard was fine how it was. Although we could add some more detailed scenes

We have decided to change the name of our opening from 'The Pursuit' to 'Garage 32'. We have decided to change our idea of what is going to be exchanged between the young girl and the male. We thought it would be a more interesting idea to have a key or memory stick as the exchanged item instead of the usual drugs or money. This key would then be significant to the garage where we will end our scene.
We are also going to chnage the ending of our scene. We are not going to end our scene with the bus scene but we will end it at a garage where it will then black out.

34. TimeToast Production Schedule

A rough timeline of our schedule

Change Of Title Name

Changing our title name.

We decide to change our title name from 'The Pursuit' to 'Garage 32b'.
Although originally we thought 'The pursuit' was the perfect name to fit in with our film, we thought we should have a title that focused on one thing that would be the centre of the rest of he film. We decided to use a key as a prop for the exchange that happens, which leaves the mystery as to what that key is for. If we were to do a whole film, we would have a garage as the place where there is something important happens which is the reason for the chase. The idea is that the key is something important, but also possibly dangerous.
Overall we think the name 'Garage 32b' is a unique name and leaves the audience to wonder what could be so important about a garage.

This is the key we use in our title sequence and one of the key props.

32. costumes - Planning

For the school girl we decided she should be wearing a traditonal uniform:

For the chaser, we wanted to make him look like a stereotypical youth so he was going to wear a tracksuit and a jacket:

Costume & Reasons For Choosing
__________________________________________________________

For our teen drama we will need to make sure our clothing is right in order to support the stereotypes. So for one of our main protagonist characters, she will be wearing a school unfirom in order to show that she is young, vunerable and someone that has got involved in the wrong activities. Our other protagonist character who is the male pursuer in the film will be wearning dark clothing such as a tracksuit in order to show that he is bad.

30. Location - Planning

Here, as director, Aamir went to visit some places for possible filming location, first choice was Camden and we thought this was suitable, here is some pictures and videos Aamir took and bought back us few ideas of locations of where we could film as he thought best spot was Camden and then we officially decided to use Camden after brainstorming locations.

28. media texts that influence you

Media Texts That Influenced Me

There are many media texts that influenced me when thinking of ideas for our film opening. The texts that influenced me were texts that involved chase scenes, which influenced me when thinking of the type of shots that we could use.

Hot Fuzz
From this chase scene we were inspired mainly by the different shots and angles used. Although this is a comedy scene we stil found that it inspired us very much to help with deciding the kind of shots we should used.

District B13

This scene inspired us because it has the danger element to it, that we want to come across in our scene. As our scene is a youth drama that has crime elemetns, we thought that the shots used in this scene would inspire us in creating a tene atmosphere.

Teacher Feedback

I was given 11/20 for my blog and I was told that I need to make my blog much more visually excting using websites such as emaze or prezi in order to put together all of my pictures and text which will then give me a higher score.

Overview of the location found
Camden town - North London
______________________________________

Welcome back to the blog,
Here is an overview of the locations we have collectively decided on. We went to Camden Town - North London and took photos of possible locations within the area. We believe that Camden best suits our theme for the sequence we are making - also because it is quite a large area we are not restricted to one place which could occur because camden is quite a tourist attraction. We also chose this area because it is well known and people will be familiar with the area and might relate.

29. Create a sound design

When filming we may need to use foley sounds in order to ad sound afects to our film. We plan on having a heavy breathing sound at the begining to fit in with our running footsteps and so we wil have to create this foley sound in order to add it to our film.

28. Media texts that influenced me

My Brother The Devil's sequence influenced me. The simplicity of the plain white text on the moving images:

Kidulthood inspired me due to the themes and the story line, this movie is aimed at the same age range as our movie:

Another film that inspired me was an independent film called the chase, i would like to incorporate idents similar to this films as it is independent just like ours

Media text influences
inspiration for our title sequence ' Garage 32b '
______________________________________________

When trying to seek inspiration for our title sequence 'Garage 32B' there were various films and videos which we were attracted to. We looked at the storylines, camera shots and themes that were explored in each youth drama film/video and used them as a stimulus for our final project.

The Chase

This is the first film we took inspiration from.
In the opening, we see a school boy walking towards a sewer - he then takes out a plastic bag full of money and walks off. As the audience we are not fully aware of what the money is for and why it was there - which then added a mysterious aspect to it.
We used this as a stimulus for our title sequence. In the beginning of ours, it starts of with the main character( who is a school girl) walking towards and into a garage - the audience then just sees a hand and a main character handing over money in return for a package with keys. We thought this would be an interesting start to the sequence as the audience are not aware of who the hand is and what the keys are for. Similarly to 'The Chase' we wanted to add a mysterious aspect to our title sequence. Also, this film is a low budget independent film with lots of young actors and actresses so it was very interesting to see how it was done.

Hammered

From this title sequence, we took inspiration on how to layout the titles and what order they should be in. we also took into consideration the font, music and background to see how it all links and what effect it has to the audience. With this in mind, we took on the idea of the fade in - fade out with titles, but instead of fading in then out to another title we are going to add short bursts of clips of the main character running. This creates a black out effect

HOT FUZZ

Even though our group did not choose to do a comedy youth drama, we still gathered a lot of inspiration and ideas from the chase scene in 'Hot Fuzz'. As seen above, there are numerous camera angles and shots used in order to cover all perspectives of the chase. As a group we want to achieve a fast pace, eye catching chase scene just like this one.

27. Sound - Planning

Aamir was working on GarageBand and created a quick soundscape for what could potentially play at the chase part of the title sequence

I uploaded this on soundcloud so i could share it

25. Title sequence order

25. Title Order - Planning

Going back to our research i looked at the conventional title order;

  1. Ident
  2. Film company
  3. Ident
  4. In association with
  5. Cast
  6. Introducing
  7. Executive producer
  8. Producers
  9. Written and directed by
  10. Director
  11. Title

as director and producer i have decided to stick fairly close to this

We will have our two Idents first, then our production company's ( Crystal Light & Candi Media Pictures ) then our associaion (Henry Trek Presents) & our title, after this the action will start and we will have the actors on screen and the director will be the last title.

26. Motion rough draft of our sequence

here is a very rough motion sequence we may include

25. Title order

Title Order.

We have decided on the order of our titles based on the fact that we are an independent production, therefore we will have less titles than a normal conventional title order.

Conventional title order:
-Production company ident
-Production company title
-Distribution company ident
-Distribution company title
-Any other production companies
-Main cast
-Film title
-Other cast members
-Casting
-Costume
-Music supervisor
-Music by
-Writer
-Director

Our title order will be much shorter as there are less companies and people involved in all aspects of our film.

Our title order:
-Production company ident
-Distribution company ident
-Production company title
-Distribution company ident
-Film title
-Cast
-Director

23. Institution Involved, Distributors etc.

We are only an independent production which means that there will be very few distributors involved in our production. The main institution that will be involved in our opening will be Candi as they will be providing us with our filming and editing equipment. This will therefore affect our title sequence as we will only have few idents and titles as there will be less people to credit on our opening.

Many filming companies will have a range of idents this is because institution invest into the film to fund project in production such as the crew, equipment, location/studio and many others things maybe affected by budget.

Distributor will include  'Candi Media' + our own companies. We will won't be a big enough film institution to interest big distributors such as Walt Disney, Universal, Columbia Pictures and many more. However we may interest small film distributors in the UK such as

For other independent films there are several different institutions that produce and distribute them. Some examples of them are 'My brother the devil' and other youth dramas

Here is our idents we made:

21. Blogging health check 1

I received some feedback on my blog post on our group blog from my teacher and here was the advice she gave to me for improvements.

  • Personalize each of your blog so its unique
  • Add more information on each blog
  • Use different formats of media to display your work
  • Keep consistent on blog posts
And the final overall mark she gave to me was 11/20

22. Initial Ideas, plot, storyline etc.

The Pursuit...

Our inital ideas for our film opening were that we wanted to create a youth drama, including a chase scene and elements of crime. We thought these themes would appeal to our audiene as our opening will be fast paced with action that will hopefully entertain our audience.

We decided to call our film 'The Pursuit' which will fit in with our ideas for the whole film if we were to make it. It would be about a young teenage girl who has managed to get herself involved with the wrong crowd and crime. The idea of pursuit is to pursue something or someone and she will be trying to find her way in life and get herself sorted. It will include fast paced scenes where they may be action and crime, but there will aslo be slower paced scenes where there may be more emotive and 'moving scenes'.

We thought it would be a good idea to film a chase scene with two main characters, a young girl and an older male. This would show the different age ranges and how the young girl has been caught up with this older guy. There will be some sort of dodgy exchange with a guy to where she then sees the main male character who starts to chase her. There will be lots of shots emphasise the fast pace and there will also be fast paced music to match this.

Blog Feedback 1

For my blog so far I received 11/20.
I think for a first blog check this is a good mark, however I would like to get higher.
To improve my blog I need to make sure I catch up on any blogs I've missed. I also need to use more multimedia and websites such as prezi. If I'm stuck with any blogs or am struggling to catch up I should attended workshops to get help.

21. Teacher Blog Feedback

Teachers feedback

Blog is improving.

Things to improve:

  • More content inside posts
  • Personalise posts
  • Make sure titles correlate with posts
  • Keep up with being consistent

Overall score at the moment is upwards of 13/20

Conventional order of titles for a independent - Research

Independent Title Conventional Order

Independent movies title sequences usually have many ident companies because of its low budget this means they have many different investor that fund into the movies production. As you can see the title sequence is much more short than a high budget film title sequence. The drawbacks of a low budget are smaller crew, less specialist crew, newcomer actors/actresses.

Independent title sequence order/list:

  1. Ident
  2. Film company
  3. Ident
  4. In association with
  5. Cast
  6. Introducing
  7. Executive producer
  8. Producers
  9. Written and directed by
  10. Director
  11. Title

Mainstream Title Sequences - Research

Mainstream Title Conventional Order
The conventional order of a main stream title sequence usually consists of
_______________________________________________________

1. Production company ident
2. Distribution company ident
3. Distribution company title
4. Production company title
5. Main actor 1
6. Main actor 2
7. Actor
8. Casting
9. Costume
10. Music by
11. Edited by
12. Producer/ producers/ executive producers
13. Directors ( which always comes last)

With mainstream movies - the budget is usually very high so they are able to afford much therefore there will be fewer idents and titles. To come to this conclusion we researched into the mainstream title sequence of the film Guardians Of The Galaxy and then used it as inspiration for our own main title sequence. We also found out that the main title is always in a different font/style compared to the other texts.

20. xmas homework - research

I chose 'My Brother The Devil' to research because its themes and story are similar to my plot idea

Name of film: My brother the devil

Sub-genre: Teen Drama

List title credits: idents, production, directors, actors

Type of title sequence: Title on moving image but also stylised, the film opens with text on still images but they turn into moving images

Producer: Wild Horse Film Company & Rooks Nest Entertainment, Mohamad Efszy

It is an independent production.

In the films opening we are introduced to two teen boys, the description: Two teenage brothers must face their own prejudices head on if they are to survive the perils of being British Arabs growing up on the streets of gangland London.
Rashid is the main character and he is introduced boxing in the title sequence, as the film goes on we get to know him better, his brother mo, idolises him and tries to be like him.
Rashid is in a gang and Mo is in college. Mo confronts his own fears and threatens to tear the brothers apart. The social groups depicted are youth, they are introduced stereo typically as being involved with drugs and violence. However Mo is the opposite of Rashid but he is influenced by the bad life. The teens don't really interact with adults very well.
We see a lot of establishing shots and close ups of the situations the brothers encounter mostly close ups and wide shots. The film is very fast paced & rashid has the most screen timeThe soundtrack is very dark and slow, this fits with the theme of the film  The film was mostly in dark/cold lighting, this gave the gloomy effect throughout and fit the theme of the film & the tone. The key locations we see are in the streets of London, Hackney.

I think this a good example of a teen film and has also inspired me. PREZI:

17. Travelling and arriving evaluation

Evaluation.

I feel that our travelling and arriving sequence went well and we were able to create good titles. Considering the limited time we had, I think we were able t create a succesful sequence.
However I think there are some things we could have done to imrpove it overall. For example I think we should have used a few more different shots from different angles. We also have been more creative with our titles, as they were quite simple.

17. Evaluation of practical remake ( traveling and arriving

Travelling and Arriving
EVALUATION
_______________________________________________

I believe that many things went well with our ' traveling and arriving' title sequence.
Considering the limited amount of time we had to create it, we were able to use the time wisely and create a successful sequence.

If we had another chance to re-film the title sequence here are the things I would change

1) A larger variety of shots taken from different angles
2) Be more creative with the style of the titles
3) Be more creative with the colour and fonts of the titles
4) Plan longer

17.Travelling and Arriving Title Sequence

This is our final title sequence. We hope you enjoy it!

We were asked to make a travelling and arriving sequence, i think it went well considering the limited time we had. It could be better if we had more time to plan and shoot & also if we had a variety of props available, overall i think this was a success.
