7.Favourite film - Research

My Favourite Film

One of my favourite films by far HAS to be 'City of God'. It gives an insight of what it was like as a teenager to live in the Favela's around the 60's. The plot thickens right from the get go and even though it isn't in a dialect I can comprehend, I can watch it repeatedly.

This is title sequence for the film 'City of God'. As the film is set in 1960's Rio de Janeiro, the titles are stylised to give them this authentic feel. The narrative of the film has informed the decisions made to create the title sequence. The two main characters grow up together but the direction they take in later life causes them to led two very different lives. One absorbed in gun and drug crime and the other wants an ambitious future in photography. This sequence is split up into a grid structure and then each section is time remapped to give this sense of off-balance. The tempo and rhythm of the sound track has also informed the design and there is this jagged movement when pace changes.
