Q1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Title Sequences:

title sequence is the method by which films or television programs present their title, key production and cast members, or both, utilizing conceptual visuals and sound. It usually follows but should not be confused with the opening credits, which are generally nothing more than a series of superimposed text.

Independent movies title sequences usually have many ident companies because of its low budget this means they have many different investor that fund into the movies production. As you can see the title sequence is much more short than a high budget film title sequence. The drawbacks of a low budget are smaller crew, less specialist crew, newcomer actors/actresses.

  1. They are usually presented at the beginning of a film opening in this conventional order:
    1. Ident
    2. Film company
    3. Ident
    4. In association with
    5. Cast
    6. Introducing
    7. Executive producer
    8. Producers
    9. Written and directed by
    10. Director
    11. Title

Conventional Title Sequence

The first element to any teen film opening is the title credits. There is a conventional way which we expressed within our title opening. It starts with distribution, production, Actors, Casting, Costume, Music Supervisors, Photography, Editing and Director. When it comes to the title it’s up to you where you put it stereotypically it’s at the end but some people want the title first or in the middle. The whole concept and purpose of the title credits is to show who has helped and contributed to making the process from beginning to start. There are serious rules about the title sequence for example they must include everyone who helped in the process or else there could be consequences, for example, George Lucas was fined $250,000 by the Directors Guild of America for not putting the directors name in the opening credits.

as director and producer i have decided to stick fairly close to this

We will have our two Idents first, then our production company's ( Crystal Light & Candi Media Pictures ) then our associaion (Henry Trek Presents) & our title, after this the action will start and we will have the actors on screen and the director will be the last title.

This video shows the similar conventions in this order; The titlem, establishinng shots, boy costume & girl costume

Instead of the protagonist being a male we decided to challenge this and use a school girl, i think this was a good decision as it

We stuck to conventions of similar titles such as kidulthood and

stuck with convention of girl being vulnerable
stuck with convention if being in london however camden isnt known for high crime
stuck with convention of tracksuit/ type of clothes being worn

i decided to put the title after the idents and association as The Chase - the independent movie did this. Also kidulthood has done the same in the screenshots below. As we are independent I decided this would fit.

REAL MEDIA TEXTS: Kidulthood, My Brother The Devil & The chase (independent)

My title sequence was a youth drama. this differed to other sub genres such as high school dramas
A youth drama usually focuses on the social dilemma of the protagonist (often male) I challenged this with a female. Youth Dramas are popular with teen audiences, seen to be a more authentic representation of youth than a High School Drama, the character is often rebellious and/or in conflict with others. this focuses on the difficulties of adolescent experience youth as a difficult or a problem.

this is different from a high school drama as they focus on  the socialisation of teens and young adults institutions such as school, college and at home, they often, but not always, celebrate the idea of being young or youth as fun. Often 'girl centred' but might focus on a male lead as a heart throb.

I used Camtasia to record the following voice over:
