Evaluation 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In our title sequence we wanted to represent different social groups but also conform or criticise different stereotypes within our society today. For example one stereotype that can abe argued is present in our society is that black males are all associated with crime and illegal activity. We wanted to go agaisnt this stereotype and so we decided to use black female instead of male to reject the negative perspective of black youths. Dahzane was the actress who took on the role of being involved in the wrong activity.

Here it shows Dazhane's image in comparison to a male teenager. Her clothing shows her to be young and vulnerable and lets the audience know that she is still at school. She has her iphone and earphones in which is very typical of teenagers to do. So this suggests that her phone and social media is a part of her life. This again allows the audience to relate to this.

Throughout the title sequence, we wanted to show to the representation of social groups as well as conform and criticise various stereotypes within our society. Unfortunately the mass media perpetuate and emphasise these stereotypes by broadcasting information to the general public making it seem like social groups have particular have a fixed image/idea.

Another stereotype that we wanted to challenege was that only males are involved in criminal activity and gangs. This is a gender stereoype and this is another reason why we decided to use a female protagonist instead of a male. Although the audience doesn't know exactly what the female is involved with, there is the idea that is is something wrong as she ends up being chased.

In society today there are many young teens that are involved with crime and gangs. And there are an increasing amount of very young teenagers even from the age of 12 who are becoming involved in crime. So we thought by using a young teenager to be the main character and worked welll. So we have conformed to the stereotpe that young people are criminals as Dahzane is a young teenager.
