Evaluation question 7

How have you progressed since the prelim and first title opening?

I believe that I have extremely improved since the prelim and the  traveling and arriving  sequence was made. Here is a quick recap of the prelim:

OVERALL
1)Comparing both the prelim and the first sequence to the final title sequence - I have extremely improved my familiarity with the camera. I am more confident with acting  and therefore I am able to express the themes and context of the final sequence.

2) My knowledge of how to put together a title sequence - that includes the clips, titles and music is far better. From the first prelim the whole sequence was quite choppy and lacked camera shots and angles. Comparing it to the final outcome of our title sequence - the final one has much more camera angles and shots, which run seamlessly till the end. Also the font of the titles and music relate to the context of the film.

3) I have learnt how to handle time more wisely and plan before doing things. After doing so, everything is more organised - I believe that lack of time and effort can be seen in both the prelim and the traveling and arriving sequence.

Finally, the final outcome of our title sequence ' Garage 32B ' is visually engaging and exciting - it leaves the audience questioning and wanting to know more. However, both the prelim and the traveling and arriving sequence lacks excitement and tension.

PRE- PRODUCTION

PRELIM
The planning for the prelim was very rushed
there was no in depth thought into the camera shots,
type of editing, sound effects or music. This was clearly evident
in the final prelim product

FINAL
We took all our mistakes we made from the prelim and came up with
solutions on how to fix them. Planning was much more in depth, we made sure
we created a detailed storyboard which included camera shots and locations. We also
had a meeting on what we wanted to achieve and how were were going to achieve it - clearly
outlining specific dates and times for filming so nothing was rushed.

CAMERA

PRELIM
The camera shots were very basic.
No variety or perspective was added - which made the prelim seem very flat.
Also we didn't take into consideration the 180 degree rule which made the audience confused at times.

FINAL
Taking the prelim mistakes in consideration we made sure none of these mistakes were repeated.
A variety of camera shots and angles were used to create depth and show an abundance of views.
Match cuts, Tracking, and a special shot was used to make the film more visually exciting.
*Over the shoulder shots were used to look as if you are in the position of the character
* Tracking shots were used as an effect to look as if you are also following the main character who is being chased.

SOUND

PRELIM
In the prelim the only sound present was the dialogue.
No thought was put into adding sound effects or music to make the film more engaging.

FINAL
Learning from the prelim. We made sure we added sound effects and music.
Lots of thought was put into what type of music and sound effects and what effect this might have on the audience.
- We created foley sound of heavy breathing to make it seem as if you were put in the position of the main character
- Dramatic sound effects were placed in key moments - just before the main character is about to run and when she finds out she lost the key
- Loud urban music is playing whilst the main character is being chased

Editing

PRELIM
There was minimal effort when it came to editing - no transitions or effects were used and we had minimal knowledge on how to use final cut pro or motion and how to add clips together

FINAL
We took our time to edit the final title sequence.
Much thought was put into where clips were placed alongside sound effects and music.
We had greater knowledge on where to place texts and video clips from the abundance of practice we did before the editing stage. We had to make sure that everything looked professional and seamless as well as no tacky transitions were added. We also added a *special* camera effect where the characters froze and the clip was sped up which was done in FCP

Here is some feedback by some of our target audience after our final product was viewed in the cinema

SKILLS LEARNT
- how to work in a team, making sure each role is shared equally
- How to use final cut pro and motion
- Different camera shots/angles
- Music and sound effects and its importance
- learning to use the camera and its equipment
- conventions of a title sequence
- importance of target audience

Finally, this journey has been an amazing experience and I have learnt many things along the way. I am thankful for all the mistakes I made in the past - that includes the prelim and first draft as well as all the feedback that we got. Without all of the criticism, our final product would have not been as successful as it is. I gained greater knowledge on what goes on when creating title sequences. This includes the post and pre production as well as the marketing.

I am extremely happy with the final product
