20. xmas homework - research
I chose 'My Brother The Devil' to research because its themes and story are similar to my plot idea
Name of film: My brother the devil
Sub-genre: Teen Drama
List title credits: idents, production, directors, actors
Type of title sequence: Title on moving image but also stylised, the film opens with text on still images but they turn into moving images
Producer: Wild Horse Film Company & Rooks Nest Entertainment, Mohamad Efszy
It is an independent production.
In the films opening we are introduced to two teen boys, the description: Two teenage brothers must face their own prejudices head on if they are to survive the perils of being British Arabs growing up on the streets of gangland London.
Rashid is the main character and he is introduced boxing in the title sequence, as the film goes on we get to know him better, his brother mo, idolises him and tries to be like him.
Rashid is in a gang and Mo is in college. Mo confronts his own fears and threatens to tear the brothers apart. The social groups depicted are youth, they are introduced stereo typically as being involved with drugs and violence. However Mo is the opposite of Rashid but he is influenced by the bad life. The teens don't really interact with adults very well.
We see a lot of establishing shots and close ups of the situations the brothers encounter mostly close ups and wide shots. The film is very fast paced & rashid has the most screen timeThe soundtrack is very dark and slow, this fits with the theme of the film The film was mostly in dark/cold lighting, this gave the gloomy effect throughout and fit the theme of the film & the tone. The key locations we see are in the streets of London, Hackney.
I think this a good example of a teen film and has also inspired me. PREZI:
